Effectiveness of birth control pill while on antibiotics..? |
i have a 7 day course of doxycycline.. im on day 5. im on the pill and get a period about every other month (i skip sugar pills now and then). i had unprotected sex tonight, i have two more days of the doxycycline, and on top of that this saturday is the last 'real' pill in my birth control before the sugar ones, and this month i will be getting a period. so over a week before i start my next pill pack- im a 24yr old female with a history of ovarian cysts- I don't think you will have a problem, though a few studies have shown that some antibiotics like penicillin, tetracycline and especially rifampin can effect birth control. I got pregnant while on the pill and antibiotics (doxy!) because I didn't take the time to read the pamphlet they gave me!! I would consider the morning after pill if I were you. You can get it at any Planned Parenthood. I would take plan B Because it WILL decrease the effectiveness of the pill. Chance of pregnancy is high You might still fall pregnant,just get the morning after pill to be safe. |
