Is the birth control pill or IUD the same as an abortion?

Should they be illegal, even for married couples?

Sarah Palin thinks they should be.

Only if you're an extremist

The birth control pill prevents conception by supressing ovulation, so it their wouldnt ever be " product of conception". Although some groups think that some post-fertilization implantation is present, this is controversial and hasnt been proved. It maybe they are referring to the morning-after pill in which prevents implantation instead. That i can understand might be construed as abortion. IUDs are also largely spermicidal or ovicidal i.e. they kill eggs and sperms but the fertilized 'product of conception'. However, they can also prevent implantation in some cases and can be construed as abortion.

I am pro-life myself but i certainly wouldnt label either of these as 'abortifacient". I think a person, even a married person, shows more responsibility in using birth control to space out children and prevent unplanned pregnancies instead of popping out a baby whenever they get pregnant with no regard to their other children's well being or considering if they can afford the time to effectively parent that many kids.

Approximately 2/3 of fertilized eggs fail to implant or are naturally aborted by the womans body before implanting strongly. We should get rid of sex altogether and do fertilization in test tubes so we can implant EVERY fertilized egg into a waiting uterous...(that last bit was just sarcasm... most IVF embryos also fail to implant...)

It certainly isn't and she should move to correct herself unless she wants to appear a fool. This should be a clear message to people that Palin and people like her are dangerous fools drunk on fundamental religious motivation.
She's too ideological to be in charge of important decisions. It's a good thing the republicans are going to fail in the election.

IUD and Birth Control Pills prevent contraception, abortion terminates the baby that has been conceived. Pregnancy does began at conception, unless the woman miscarries. Any woman who says different is lying to herself to make a point.

I am pro-life, but I differ when it comes to telling others how they should be. I am not responsible for them. God gave us all a free will, who am I to take it away?

Not the same. If we are against these methods there will be many children per family and most of us are having trouble feeding ourselves. We simply can not afford big families with today's wages and our inflated prices.

"Contraception" works BEFORE conception. The "birth control pill", if you are referring to the "morning after pill", works AFTER conception.

If she were to succeed in banning abortion, The Pill, and Plan B, the number of dead babies found in dumpsters will skyrocket straight through that damn glass ceiling of hers.
