What do you think of blood donation for a 16 1/2 year old girl?

does it make you gain weight...i heard it does.
how long does it take for all the lost blood to return to the body?
any tips??
head ups?

It is ridiculous for people to say donating blood causes weight gain! Not true at all.

When you donate blood, it may seem like they draw a ton of blood from you but really it is only around 10% of your total blood. And your body replaces the lost blood within 24 hrs :)

You are doing a great thing--so many people would die unnecessarily if it werent for blood donors!

I donated blood when I was about that age. It's not really a big deal. It definitely does not make you gain weight. When I did it, it was at the school blood drive. They provided us with sodas to drink during and after the process to keep our sugar levels up and snacks afterwards to help prevent dizziness and such. I'm not sure exactly how long it takes for the blood to return to the body but you'll be fine until it does. Tips would be make sure to let them know if you're getting dizzy or feeling faint and if you are do not get up out of the chair, remain seated until it passes and you feel ok to get up. Other than that just enjoy the knowledge that what you're doing can save someone elses life :)

It's probably illegal where you live if you are 16 and a half, and nom it doesn;t cause you to gain or lose weight. I asked the lady at the donation place last time I went and she said it takes maximum 4 hours for the bood to regenerate.
