How big is blood donation needle? |
I am thinking about dobating blood at my school. However, the last time i went in for a tetanus shot i was completely calm... until i saw the needle... so i am worried that i will freak out when i see the huge needle they use for donation... Not to scare you away, but it is a pretty big needle.. this is a good thing because otherwise it would take forever. The needle isn't obscenely long, but it is thicker to speed up the process, honestly though, it feels the same as any other needle, a person cannot distinguish the difference in diameter by feel. The needle is certainly larger than that for a tetanus shot. I'm thinking 14 or 16 gauge. But it is scarcely more pain than a smaller needle, and is only momentary. Maybe they can put a numbing cream on your arm prior to the draw. I would guess that it is around a 22 gauge needle, similar to the one used for routine blood draws. |
