Jehovah's Witnesses: Why can one be disfellowshipped for accepting a blood transfusion?

While I am aware of the scriptures that you use to explain why you avoid blood (Deut. 15:23, Acts 15:29).. I am confused as to why one can be disfellowshipped for accepting a transfusion. There is no scripture that says, "reject the person who eats blood," yet a person is automatically DF'd for accepting a transfusion. (I'm using Titus 3:10,11 as an example; we are told to reject the man who "promotes a sect.")

What is the scriptural basis for disfellowshipping a brother/sister who accepts a blood transfusion?

Since when have the JW's needed scripture to do or say anything? They don't need it, they do and say as they are told by the Governing Body-scripture has little to do with it, as they rely on the Governing Body's interpretation of scripture. They trot out the tired old line about an alcoholic injecting alcohol into a vein, but display their breathtaking ignorance in doing so. Alcohol behaves as alcohol whether it is ingested or injected. Blood when ingested is simply processed by the digestive tract, broken down then ejected as waste. Blood when injected immediately interacts with other blood cells, and performs as blood from the instant it is injected into the bloodtsream. A transfusion is an organ transplant made at cellular level, yet these complete cretings refuse to accept this fact. Why? Because the Governing Body tells them to. The Governing Body told them to stop worshipping Jesus in 1954 and they did exactly that, now they simply refuse to accept that they ever did. They are truly brainwashed by the GB.

Taking blood into the body was shown in the Mosaic Law to be a moral issue, not a clean/unclean food issue. It is not mentioned in the Law along with the unclean foods. It is mentioned separately - saying that the soul is in the blood.

To back that up, In Acts chapter 15, blood is mentioned along with fornication, a disfellowshipping offense.

it definitely goes agains modern thought and teaching.

it has to do with the old testament teaching that men should partake of the blood of man, because it is the life of the body.

but one may argue that a transusion is digesting blood. and there are alternativies like taking blood plasma. if one is excommunicated, it would be on the grounds of conatimniation and disease. which could infect the entire church like the swine flu would contaminate and kille many if it were not stopped at the door.

If a Doctor told an alcoholic to quit drinking or he will die, would he be able to take alcohol through an I.V. into the veins and be alright? He would die.
The bible says abstain from blood and those things strangled (Meat not properly Bled).

No Jehovah's Witness would ever WANT a blood transfusion.
We don't reject transfusions because of being disfellowshipped.
We love Jehovah & respect his views about blood.

Eating blood or introducing blood voluntarily is considered a grave sin, that is at the same level as fornication. Acts 15:20. Now compare to 1 Corinthians 5:9-13.

Technically, they are not DF'd. They disassociate themselves from the christian congregation.

Hope this clears things up for you!

Blood was sacred to God, and all mankind was forbidden to eat it. The only proper use for blood was in sacrifices. In other situations it was to be poured out upon the ground.

In Leviticus in the Jewish Law covenant it was an offense punishable by death to eat blood.

Leviticus 7:
"26聽鈥溾€楢nd YOU must not eat any blood in any places where YOU dwell, whether that of fowl or that of beast. 27聽Any soul who eats any blood, that soul must be cut off from his people.鈥欌€?"

Genesis 9: 4聽"Only flesh with its soul鈥攊ts blood鈥擸OU must not eat. 5聽And, besides that, YOUR blood of YOUR souls shall I ask back."

God says that to eat blood means we have sinned and he will "ask back" our own lives if we do such a thing.

Granted with a transfusion you are not "eating" blood, but neither are you accepting the spirit of what God meant when he indicated we should not sustain our own lives by taking into our bodies someone else's blood. The scripture in Acts tells us not to "not eat" blood but to "abstain from blood" Acts 15:20

Since it was a sin punishable by death in the Jewish law and in the law given to Noah, it is clear that God views it as a very serious sin, equivalent to murder since one becomes blood guilty for taking blood into one's body. Therefore it is reasonable that it should also be a disfellowshipping offense. We do not have the Law Covenant over us now, so we would not punish such a sin by death (as the Jews were required to), but by spiritual banishment.
