I've been on antibiotics for a while now, could I have breast cancer?

Okay so I have been on 3 different antibiotics for 6 months now for a disease I have and I have had quite a bit of chest pain for the past couple of months. I heard that antibiotics can greatly increase your chances of getting breast cancer and I'm on 3. The thing is I'm only 14 so I don't know if this really applies for me (oh and yes I am a girl) and the only new symtoms the antibiotics have caused are the chest area pain and severe nausea and I was just wondering if there is a chance I could have or get breast cancer because of these antibiotics and if so what should I do.

Thnx

You are WAY too young to be having such adult worries. You don鈥檛 need to think about breast cancer for another 25-30 years.

I work in the cancer field. I am a cancer registrar in Los Angeles where we see many more unusual cases than less populated areas and I have never seen a teenager with breast cancer. However, so many teenagers come here worried about having breast cancer I looked up the statistics to better answer them. From 1975-2000 0.1% of 15-19 year olds out of every 100,000 were diagnosed with breast cancer. If anyone under 15 was ever diagnosed the number is so small statistics are not kept.

Antibiotics are not associated with breast cancer and chest pains are not a symptom of breast cancer. However, having chest pains is not a good thing even at 14. Tell your mom and have her take you back to the doctor and tell him or her that you have been nauseous. They may be able to switch your prescription to something else. Good luck and try to enjoy being 14 it really does go by faster than you think.

Highly unlikely for you to develop breast cancer at 14. Its not unheard of, but very very rare. Feel your breasts for lumps regularly. And just talk to your doctor about your fear. It would take alot longer than 6 months of antibiotic use to genetically alter your breast tissue, and it usually takes years after that to manifest itself into a cancer. Have the chest pain evaluated by the doctor. Possible side effect of your disease, or your antibiotics, or another problem. No way to know without asking.

no it wont give you cancer
you seem to have a problem with your chest though that needs to be checked out
