Asking doctor about breast reduction?

I'm 17 years old and I've wanted a breast reduction for awhile now. I talked to my mom about it and she agrees that I need it. I'm a 34 G.

I went to the doctor about a month ago and told him about my neck, back, and shoulder and he just gave me a muscle relaxer (Skelaxin, I think) that made me dizzy and nauseous.

So my questions are: How can I ask my doctor about a breast reduction? Do you think insurance will cover my surgery if I'm a 34 G, 165 pounds, and 5 foot 4?

Just ask them. Find out if you need a referral for your ins co. If you do, get a referral. If not, check out PS's in your health insurance directory and see at least three of them.

Your chances of having your insurance company pay are better if the surgery is deemed "corrective" and not "cosmetic." If you are ligitimately suffering from back and neck pain and have complained about this to your doc, that's evidence in your favor. All you have to do is ask for a referral for a cosmetic/corrective surgeon, nothing to be ashamed or afraid of. Talk to your parents first, of course.

Please be aware that a reduction leaves scarring in the shape of an anchor with a circle around the nipple, a line from the bottom of the areola down to the underside of the breast and then across the underside. It is serious cutting and can reduce sensation in your nipples and breast overall. You may not be able to breastfeed. Be sure you discuss all the positives and negatives with your surgeon before making a final decision.

Beijos!

I'm sorry to hear you are going through this. My Mom has also suffered this her entire life =(

Go see a doctor who specializes in breast reduction. He or she will tell you if you are a good candidate. Your insurance should cover it, if your doctor is recommending it for you. That depends on your insurance though, so the best way for you to find out is to call your insurance company and ask.

Yes insurance should cover it. Go back to your doctor and inform him you don't want drugs for the pain you want a breast reduction to eliminate the problem. As long as you have a legitimate medical reason for needing it done, which you do. Most insurance companies will cover the surgery. Just make sure you check out your surgeon well before having it done. My cousin had hers reduced a few years back and she said it was the best thing she ever did.
