I think there's worms in my stool and I'm breastfeeding?

So I'm freaking out. We have 1 cat, 2 cats. Last year in October, my abdomen swelled tremendously and only went away when I went to the bathroom. Yes there's mucus, blood, and excruciating abdominal pain and I almost always have diarrhea!

Normally I wouldnt be this worried, but I'm freaking out because today, I actually saw them clearly. I just thought it was because I had a large baby through labor and ugh.. I'm terrified now. First off, I'm not even sure they're worms. Just what I suspect, because I have a skinny retarded cat who crapped in the shower during my pregnancy that I had to clean up.

Can I transfer worms to my child through breastfeeding? I don't plan on breastfeeding any longer until I'm sure it's safe, but can I? I'm terrified. He's 5 weeks old..

I'm not a doctor or a pharmacist (degree in Biomedical Science and 8 years as an assistant in pharmacy) and you can safely breastfeed and have worms.

Now, the worms aren't your main concern with breastfeeding (if they are there, they're happily residing in your gastrointestinal tract and won't enter your milk supply). I imagine you want to take an antihelminthic (worm medication) so talk with your local pharmacist about what you can take and let them know that you're breastfeeding a 5-week old.

Congratulations by the way! =)

I don't know if you can transfer it to the baby by breastfeeding, but I am sure you can if you are not meticulous in your personal hygiene. I would call your doctor, I might even call an urgent care center. Some parasites can kill you... and certainly could harm the baby

gonna yell at you now...

CALL YOUR DOCTOR ASAP!!!

You can't transfer worms through breast feeding but you can transfer then through unclean hands. GO TO A DOCTOR ASAP. You both need to get checked out. Early infections in the life can strongly influence later heath and development. You need to get your cats cleaned up too. If you can't keep your pets disease free and you have a babythen I reccommend finding a new home for your pets. Your child is more important than your pets.
