I am breastfeeding and im wondering about smoking cirarettes...?

Well, im breastfeeding my newborn and i was wondering if there was a way that i could smoke cigarettes??? Like if you are going to drink then you have to do it right after you feed then it wont be in the breastmilk by the next feeding... does anybody know if this is true for cigarettes??

and no i haven't smoked yet.. i just really want to!

nooo i would NEVER smoke around my child! nobody is allowed to, and i make my husband was his hands and brush his teeth everytime he touches the baby, im just asking if i smoke a cigarette directly after a feeding, will that be fine??

Im not fining for one, i just really want one...

Do you know how BAD it is too smoke when you also have a child with you. Would you like your child smoking? Of course not, because shes too young. But thats what your doing to her. Second-degree smoking. Don't start because you'll never STOP and no its not "cool" as some people say. Its like a death stick. It shortens your life.
The cons of smoking cigarette are numerous. They are:

1) Cigarette smoke leaves an after smell on everything: your clothes, car and home.
2) You may not be able to breathe properly.
3) You may have a nagging cough all day and night.
4) You may suffer from severe headaches, and occasional migraines.
5) You may feel dizzy after smoking cigarettes too fast or after having too many of them.
6) You may have yellow skin, tooth and fingernails.
7) You may have lot of phlegm, which may force you to clear your voice continuously and may even make you lose your voice mid sentence.
8) You may suffer from increased rate of hypertension.
9) You may have a feeling of inadequacy and substance dependence.
10) You may suffer from nausea after too much of smoking.
11) You may feel anxiety and no relaxation throughout the day.
12) You may experience limited motivation and energy to do anything.
13) The sense of smell and taste may diminish.
14) You may accidentally burn holes in you clothes or your upholstery.
15) You are wasting your hard earned money and ruining your health as well.
16) You may also suffer from lingering colds and bronchitis.
DONT DO IT!!!!!!!!!

The more cigarettes that you smoke, the greater the health risks for you and your baby. If you can't stop smoking, or don't want to stop smoking, it's safer for your baby if you cut down on the number of cigarettes that you smoke.

Don't smoke immediately before or during breastfeeding. It will inhibit let-down and is dangerous to your baby.

Smoke immediately after breastfeeding to cut down on the amount of nicotine in your milk during nursing. Wait as long as possible between smoking and nursing. It takes 95 minutes for half of the nicotine to be eliminated from your body.

I did occassionally smoke when I nurse my 5 year old. I ended up quitting because I noticed the nicotine was making him irritable. Once I stopped, he was a much more calm baby. Something to think about.

No, that could potentially be very bad. It is safer to just wait until you are done breast feeding for good. That is what I did. When I finished breast feeding for good, then I started smoking again. (The day I found out I was pregnant I said I would not have a cigarette until I was not longer pregnant and no longer breast feeding. After that I wore a sweater regardless to the conditions outside while I smoked and then when I came in the sweater came off. I brushed my teeth, and washed my hands and put up my hair. I wanted the smell of cigarettes kept away from my daughter. Although people say I went to far with that. That is how I felt was best.

If you haven't smoked through your pregnancy, try not to do it now. I quit both times and my last son I started up again after he was born (don't yell at me, I never smoke around him or inside) and regret it ever since because it is soooooo freakin' hard to quit again. But, if you insist and there no other way because you're about to find the nearest rope and hang yourself, then wait until after your baby has fed and is napping...take it outside.

im not judging you but seriously why do you want to ? i used to smoke for years and i know what it feels like to crave them but yoiu need to really ask yourself why do i really want to smoke they stink, cost lost of money and become the center of your life, plus they are terrible for your health and they do get passed through your breastmilk and into the baby yuck!! if you havnt smoked yet just stop right now it took a year for the cravings to go away for me but they were tolerable just focus on your baby and think about what you could buy in place of that pack of cigs!!! i feel great now i saved sooo much money and smell like a woman again its the best thing i ever did for myself and my kids

who told you you can drink that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard no you can't smoke. Why would you even consider it, cigarettes kill you what do you think they'd do to your kid!!!!! Your kid should be a little more important then your desire to smoke or drink. If you wanted to do those things you shouldn't have gotten pregnant!

Cigarettes are full of chemicals, and these chemicals go just about everywhere in your body. Including breast milk. And since your baby's systems are still developing and incredibly fragile, the chemicals in cigarettes are a huge NO.

You might ask your husband to stop smoking - in addition to the myriad benefits on his life and your child's life that I am sure you know all about, you will probably feel less tempted, too.

Good luck!

Surely having a new born baby is reason enough to want to live your entire life with them? This might seem a bit drastic but smoking is a killer and second hand smoke is a killer too - this means that people (your baby) can get all of the toxins from your smoke from the smell of your breath, your clothes and your skin.

Seriously though, why on earth would you 'want' to smoke? I mean, unless you were a smoker beforehand.

Nicotine does not build up in the milk.

It is best to not smoke, but if you choose to:

1. Smoke as little as possible.
2. NEVER smoke around your baby or in the house/car.
3. If possible, change your clothes and wash your hands after smoking.
4. Don't co-sleep if you smoke.
5. Smoke after you breastfeed so most of the nasty stuff will be gone by the time baby nurses again.

i was a breastfeeding mother of two kids and i am a X smoker. Drinking is NOT! safe it stays in your body for 24hours that is form an OBGYN. smoking can lead to lack of milk or evedryingng up (it happen to me. MFirstst smokeded and dried up in couplele of months and was malnourisheded and now that quitete my 4month old is doing fine.

First of all, the alcohol will be in the breast milk if you drink. Alcohol is stored really well in fat and that is what breast milk mostly is!! Don't do that!

And don't smoke!! Surely you didn't smoke while pregnant so you shouldn't have done so for 9 months or so... Just don't do it. Its expensive and nasty. Find something to get your mind off it!

Smoking is bad, for you and the baby. Breastfeeding, huh? Think of the carcinogens you are delivering to your little 'precious' one through your breast milk. What did the baby ever do to deserve that? NO, it's not okay to smoke while breastfeeding. It's not okay to smoke AT ALL.

Once you smoke, you have to wait 60-90 minutes before you can feed. After you're done feeding, you can smoke again.
It is still better than formula feeding. I did this with all 3 of my kids, and they are very healthy.

you'd smoke when you have a child? that is not such a great idea...it can increase the risk of SIDS and asthma.

dont start.
fight the temptations
second hand smoke will be bad for the baby in the longrun
it can get Asthma, Cancer....

What a great excuse to quit smoking!

I can't stress enough how important it is for you to beat this addiction.

Why would you want to start smoking? Trust me, you'll regret it!! Don't do it!!!!

Not good...If you must do it 3 to 4 hours prior to breastfeeding.

do not Smoke with your baby way your breastfeeding cause what u do your baby is doing

DOOOOON'T DO IIIIIIIIITTTT!!!! lol

I was a smoker before I got pregnant and quit the minute i suspected i was preggo. Never smoked until i came back to work, my son was 4mo & I smoke maybe 2-3cigs a day. It doesn't hurt unless you smoke more than 10 cigs a day. I pump for my son, so i smoke right after pumping, not just before & i never smoke when i'm home, not inside or outside, only when i'm at work or somewhere else WITHOUT my son. It's fine, it's better to smoke & breastfeed than to smoke & feed formula.

My son is almost 8 mo now, super big & healthy and we co-sleep, no problems at all =]

God Bless

no r u an idiot? r u trying to kill ur child... listen

Your kids have more of a chance to be killed from second hand smoke. if u really care about him/her then you wouldnt think about smoking or drinking in his/her presence

no if u smoke ur baby will be addicted to nicotine
