How to lose weight after pregnancy, please help!! I'm breastfeeding...?

I was very skinny and toned before getting pregnant, (about 110 lbs) but I've gained about 45 lbs during pregnancy I'm only 5'1'' so now I look terrible, extra flabby skin everywhere!!! I lost 20 lbs in the first 3 weeks right after my baby was born, but it's been 3 more weeks since then and i haven't lost a pound. Will I EVER be that skinny again? Do I need to go on a strict diet and exercise like crazy to get my abs back or I'm being too paranoid and all I need it's time?

Hon, you will get your figure back but it's only been six weeks. You're breastfeeding and therefore now is not the time to be considering dieting. You need to actually eat more than you would have done pre-pregnancy: around an extra 500 calories. Dieting will only deprive your body of the nutrients it needs at this time and make you even more exhausted and ill- remember it's been through a big trauma (pregnancy and birth takes it our of a body) and you lose a lot of essential vitamins when you're pregnant (for the baby)- you need to take time to allow it to recover and heal, not starve it.

Don't worry about your figure. Just enjoy being a new mum. Remember these celebs who regain their shapes as soon as their babies are born have nannies to help them look after their babies and personal trainers/ chefs helping them. Your figure will come; in the meantime, don't worry about it xx

You should wait for some more time before starting any weight loss plan as you are breast feeding right now. Read about post pregnancy weight control from this page to know more about what would be right for you at this time: http://www.greatdad.com/tertiary/89/1565...

You need time. All crash dieting and frantic exercising will do right now is reduce your milk supply. The world won't end if you are not toned until a few months after baby is weaned.

I feel you girl! I was VERY skinny before my pregnancy 95 and 5'3". I gained 60 lbs with my pregnancy! My daughter will be 1 year old in 2 weeks and I have gotten myself down to about 109 now. I breast fed for almost 7 months. I still have a way to go.

Its normal that you lost the 20 lbs in the first 3 weeks. Alot of that was baby and water retention. The rest is more difficult to lose.

The key to losing weight is to eat less calories than you burn. I have been using an application on my iPod called lose it. I was stuck at 120 lbs and could not lose anything beyond that. I started the "lose it" app and have lost about 11 pounds in 4 weeks. It sounds really harsh but I can only eat about 750 calories per day. If I work out on my elliptical machine for 20 minutes, I burn 120 calories. So the more I work out, the more calories I can consume. Its really working for me.

You have just had a baby 6 weeks ago. A general rule of thumb is "it took 9 months to out the weight on, it will take 9 momnths or longer to take it off" I bet you think that your belly looks like a "bowl of jelly" thats what I thought! It takes time but you should get your body back.

Once you have had your 6 week post partum check up, you can resume working out. Cardio is great for burning calories, walking, running, swimming, biking, rollerblading. And start toning with small weights, like 5 pounds, for arm exercises. Do squats and leg lifts. Have you heard of "yoga-laties"? Its a combination of yoga and pilates. I have a DVD that has 4 workouts, abs, arms, legs and full body. Its great! Eat healthy. ALOT of fresh fruits and veggies and a TON of water. Lean meats like boneless skinless chicken, pork, fish...grilled or baked. cut back on caffein and sauce (like gravy and butters) Make sure you check your calories and stick to the recomended portion sizes. Try "light" or diet foods. The weight watchers soups are really good (chicken noodle only has 82 calories per can! Thats 1 meal)

Here is an example of my food diary for 1 day.

Breakfast: 1 cup of milk and a banana....210 calories total
Elliptal machine for 20 minutes......burned 120 calories
Lunch: Weight watchers soup, 6 saltein crackers (reduced sodium) and 1/4 cup tuna with 1 chopped pickle in it....230 calories total
Dinner: 1 chicken breast baked (200 grams is only 188 cal) 1/2 cup noodles (if you check calories on noodles you can find some as low as 150 cal per 1/2 cup) 4 mushrooms sliced, 4 canned artichoke hearts, 1/4 cup hollandaise sauce, light.....425 total calories.
That is 745 total calories for the whole day. If I do a snack, I do fresh fruit.

You can check online for the amount of calories in just about anything. Make a diet diary and record all the foods you eat, how many calories you eat and the calories you burn in exercising. It really helps. Plus, dont weigh yourself everyday. Once or twce a week. Measure yourself. Around your belly, hips, each thigh and upper arm. Gradually you will see inches melt away. It took me several months to start feeling good about myself again, but it will come. Be patient and have alot of will power.

That was a long answer but I think I covered everything. Hope I helped!

I know exactly how you feel. Dont worry about it. Right now you have your hands full with your new little one. It took me about 8 mths to get close to prepregnancy size. I just do little work out videos that are made for mom and baby and I only do it 2x a week since he was 6.5mths.
Breastfeeding helps with losing the baby weight also. You just need to eat healthy and if you did exercise before pregnancy and during pregnancy you might want to continue a light work out. Such as crunches & squats (work the stomach and butt) Like a previous post stated if you starve yourself or go on a super strict diet and work out to hard- you have a high chance of decreasing your milk supply.
