Did you have a period while breastfeeding? Is it true that breastfeeding prevents pregnancy? |
I'd love to hear what you have experienced or know! Thanks! no its a myth that you can not get pregnant when you are breastfeeding, few weeks after i had my son i was breastfeeding and a midwife told me i could not get pregnant so me and my partner were happy to have unprotected sex, then when my son was about 6weeks old i found out i was actually 3-4weeks pregnant, i was shocked and another midwife told me that it was not true that breastfeeding would stop you getting pregnant, it can stop you getting your period sometimes but is not a good method of contraception, sadly a few weeks later at 6weeks 1day i lost my little one to miscarriage, he was my fourth one to loss, and since lost another 3, my total miscarriages are now sitting at 7, anyways the point is you can still get pregnant even if you are breastfeeding On average, breastfeeding women do not have periods for the first 6 months of breastfeeding. This is really variable though - for some it is a month, and for others a year. I got my first period after 6 months of breastfeeding while my son was still nursing 12+ times a day. Yes you can get pregnant while breastfeeding. Some women don't ovulate while breastfeeding but you will never know if you are one of the lucky ones. You ovulate at least once before your period returns. It's better to play it safe and assume you can get pregnant at any time. It is not unlikely for some women to menstruate while breastfeeding, and yes, you can definitely get pregnant while breastfeeding so if you don't want any more little ones, take some form of contraception. breastfeeding does NOT prevent pregnancy. breastfeeding does make a woman have ZERO lubrication though, so men.. invest in some astroglide =) my friend thought she couldn't get pregnant while breast feeding. she is now pregnant again after just 6 months of giving birth. i breastfed and had periods and as for getting pregnant yesssss u can so make sure to take precautions |
