ovarian cancer is quite rare ,but apparently doctors only see 1 case every 5 yrs ,so in most cases symptoms often get mistaken for other things ,such as ibs etc...so i ask because when having a cervical smear ,they take a swab of your cervix & not your ovaries,,so does it actually pick ovarian cancer up also ?

No not at all. The smear test simply takes a sample of cervical cells which are sent away to see if any of the cells look abnormal. The smear test is not a testing for cancer, it is test for cell changes which can indicate precancerous cells.

That said, if a Doctor does your smear test, he may do a bi-manual exam and will check to see of ovaries are enlarged, this is of course not in any way diagnostic but would be worthy of further investigation if they are enlarged.

i believe so. That's why you have paps done yearly when they test, they test to see if any of the cells are abnormal if they are then they test further to see why there abnormal and that is how they would discover it. Im sorry i read the wuestion wrong thats how they do it for cervical cancer with overian cancer that is why they stick there fingers inside and also on the outside of your pelvis they are feeling them to check for abnormalities.
