Does there always have to be a resson for someone to have clincal depression?

To me there can be many factors for someone to have clinically depression or depression like generic gens and on the other hand I have no clue.

I have depression and I am trying to figure out why I have been for year. I am getting myself help now I hope in time I'll know.

Hi,

There doesn't have to be a reason... Sometimes our brains are just wired differently, which may be due to familial genes, or it may just be the way we were born. However, some people can pinpoint a reason they have depression, such as childhood abuse, some form of trauma, or their negative core beliefs about themselves.

Whether or not it matters why we are depressed is arguable... I was diagnosed with major depression when I was 10 years old and put on medication... I'm now 24 and don't feel depressed ever anymore, and I stopped medication several years ago. For me, it took quite some time in therapy, as well as lifestyle changes and building self-esteem to feel this way. But I suppose it just depends on the person. I found that the less negative things I did in my life (stealing, drugs, cutting, etc.) and the more positive things I did (volunteer work, acting out of tolerance and patience, doing well in school, working, helping others), the better I felt. This in combination with therapy has helped me discover why I've always felt down and treated myself poorly.

I wish you luck... The less I looked for the reason, the quicker I got over the depression and the answers came to me in time.

Best wishes to you!

No. Quite often, there is no identifiable reason for depression. However, genetics does factor into it, and so does the person (their mindset and personality) themselves.

If you're depressed, it's a good idea to try therapy. It can help you learn how to effectively deal with it. If it's really severe, you may want to try medication.

I think you will figure out what is making you depressed. Keep exploring your feeling and experiences with your therapist.
Maybe these questions might help get you thinking.
Do you feel like something is missing in your life?
Has something happened to hurt your feelings?
What would make you feel happier? I hope you are doing OK. Best Wishes.

Typically there is no vivible reason for clinical depression....... that is part of what differentiates it from a normal short term depression.
