What are some of signs of diabetes? My daughter was told by her doctor that she may be diabetic.?

She is always thirsty, hungry and has to go the bathroom a lot. There is a history of diabetes on my side and my husband's side of the family. She is 17 and does not want to be tested, I know that I can still make her, but what can I do to help her to realize that she really needs to do this?

Sad to say that even though you can force her to be tested, you can't force her to take care of herself.

Tell her that she is at risk for losing her eyesight. She will experience decreased kidney function and will end up on dialysis or a transplant waiting list. She will have poor circulation in her extremities and risks amputation because of it. If she drives and blacks out behind the wheel and causes an accident she risks losing her license.

Explain to her that these are the extremes that can and will happen if diabetes goes untreated. Then take her to a hospital where she can see this with her own eyes. I know it sounds harsh but sometimes it's the only thing that will work. It's what my folks did to me when I didn't want to take care of myself.

1- Persuade her to change lifestyle. If she regularly exercises and doesn't eat too much carbohydrates in the evening meals then her symptoms can be improved. She is yound and can take charge of her life and diabetes.

2- Get a home blood sugar checker and do it at home if she doesn't want to go to the doctor. This will also help to regularly monitor the progress of the home remedies of exercise and diet.

Regardless of the type of diabetes, the symptoms are the same. They are often more insidious in the case of type 2 diabetes.

* Elimination of excessive urine (it is common to get up at night to go urinate)
* Increased thirst and hunger
* Weight loss
* A weakness and excessive fatigue
* Blurred vision
* An increase in the occurrence and recurrence of infections of the skin, gums, bladder, vulva or the foreskin
* A slowdown in the healing process
* Numbness or tingling in hands and feet

Note. Untreated diabetes causes severe symptoms it is important to recognize.

I'm a diabetic and here are some symptoms I suffered:
Extreme thirst
dizzy
hungry
shakey
vomit
tied
wetting the bed
I was really moody
No Patience

That's some of the signs. A simple blood test can eliminate all doubts. Blurred vision and sensitive feet may appear later. You should check with your doctor and see what he suggest. Hope this helps.

Show her websites about diabetes. Have her read all the bad things that will happen to her if she is diabetic and doesn't do something about it.
