Who is affected by diabetes, is it on the the person with it or others around him/her? |
Does diabetes affect only the patient or are there wider social implications of this disorder? i dont mean it by it being contagiouse, i mean does it stress the faily out, or others around the diabetic. It affects the entire household. It is the family that worries that they will get the disease also as some parts of it are genetic. it effects those aorund them. It is definitely on the person diagnosed with it, but it may well affect those around that person. He will have to forever be checking his blood sugar and drinking or eating certain foods to keep that sugar level at the level the doctor wants. His family may well be affected too because it's usually much more healthy and lifestyle-affecting if the afflicted and the affected person eat together. The diabetic must watch other things he ingests too. He cannot just go get a Coke, or even a Diet Coke as many of us do. This problem and this reaction to it will be around the rest of his life, and his friends and family must learn to adapt to it too, if they intend to stay in his life. You make it sound like diabetics are dangerously radioactive! We aren't. I have a disease, a serious one which I am responsible for taking care of and living with. It places no burden on anyone else, near me, or otherwise. The cancer I have and the arthritis I have, have required more help from family and friends than my diabetes. Hope to keep it that way as long as I can. It affects both. Many diabetics suffer from depression and that is hard on the rest of the family. Also ED can affect both the diabetic and the partner. If diabetes is kept under control then both can lead a fairly normal life. And finally , diabetes is a very expensive disease for life. Ah, it affects everyone involved. No Diabetes is basically a lifestyle disorder if we are to look at it this way. |
