I was recently diagnosed with gestational diabetes and was wondering if yogurt was a good snack?

My yogurt has protein and a carb, so can i just have that? or do i need something with it? Also my doctor told me to have whole-grain bread. I have multi-grain bread. Is that fine or should I get new bread? thank you

YOGURT IS GOOD.

Yogurt is great, but some of the flavored yogurts have a lot of added carbs. Plain yogurt is the best, it has 0 added carbs, but it can taste gross on its own, add splenda and some nuts to make it more palatable. The flavored yogurts labeled as "light" usually have less added sugar, those are good as well.

You might want to look up the glycemic index of the particular bread you want to use. Your doc is recommending whole wheat because it is lower gi, and so is absorbed more slowly. honestly I've got type 1, so I don't pay too close attention to the GI of my foods, I just look at total carbs so I can't really recommend a good low GI bread for you, but I am sure there is one out there.

You should get a Diabetic Meal Plan from your Doctor or Dietitian. When you find out how much Calories you should be eating every day, this will be helpful to you.
Read and research all that you can find on how to live a normal life with Diabetes, then you will know just where "Yogurt and Whole Grain Bread" fit
into your eating habits.

whole grain bread is great and so is yogurt! they are both low GI which is a longer lasting carb! :) multi grain and whole grain are the same :)
