A young mother of 24 yrs is having diabetes and she has to take insulin daily. What is the best ayurvedic, dietary or natural remedy for her? As she has to care for her baby all through the day, she is unable to do any exercise. Diabetes canNOT be cured. it can only be CONTROLLED.
Since she is taking insulin, we are not clear if she is a Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetic. Treatment will be based on what type of diabetic she is.
Type 1 Diabetes is characterized by a complete failure of the pancreas. This most often happens in children uner the age of 18, but it is not uncommon for young adults as old as 30 to get it. Type 2 Diabetes can also turn into Type1, after many years of poor treatment.
Type 2 Diabetes is caused by being overweight. This is most common in adults over 40, but with society's ways of eating wrong foods and failing to get exercise, Type 2 Diabetes is now showing up in children as young as 9 years old!
And Type 2 Diabetes is VERY common if the mother had Gestational Diabetes while pregnant. In fact, a woman who has Gestational Diabetes is more than twice as likely to develop Type 2 Diabetes later in life.
There is only ONE treatment for Type 1 Diabetes -- insulin shots. Since the body produces NO insulin, the shots are necessary, or she will die. The ONLY alternative is a risky, painful, and expensive pancreas transplant.
Type 2 diabetes can often be controlled through diet and exercise.
The Type 2 Diabetes MUST COMPLETELY ELIMINATE sugar from their diet. They can have NO sugar. That means no colas, sports drinks, energy drinks, canned fruit juices, candies, cakes, ice cream, pudding, doughnuts, cookies -- ANYTHING with sugar MUST be ELIMINATED from the diet.
The patient MUST reduce the amounts of starches they eat. Eat fewer breads, crackers, pastas, rice, corn, and potatoes. It really help to get a Diabetic Cookbook, and learn what foods are starchy and what food are healthy.
And the patient MUST get more exercise. "She has to care for her baby" is just an excuse. if she does not get more exercise she is going to be hospitalized, limtied to a wheelchair or nursing home, or die -- any of the three will leave her baby with NO care, and dying will leave the baby without a mother.
You could do her a great service by getting off the internet and volunteering to take care of the baby while she exercises!
THERE IS NO CURE FOR DIABETES. IF she can develop the self-discipline to change her eating habits and lifestyle, then the diabetes can be CONTROLLED, and she will live as long and as happy as a healthy perseon.
But for the rest of her life, the diabetes will still be inside her, just waiting for her to change her diet or forget to exercise. then, the diabetes will come back, and usually stronger and more viscious than before. the results can be heart attacks, strokes, blindness, amputation, kidney failure and dialysis -- even death! There are some natural supplements that can help with diabetes, even type 1.
Since I'm not sure what type you have I can only assume that you have type 2.
Natural supplements such as cinnamon, alpha lipoic acid, b-complex and there are others that will help you naturally control your blood sugar levels.
Taking care of a baby is an incredible job, perhaps just taking a walk with the baby will give you that extra little bit of exercise that you need.
Here is a website with more information on it to help you learn more about the natural supplements and much more.
Good luck to you. There is NO CURE for diabetes, especially if she is on insulins! At least at the current time. She must have the insulins in order to live.
Exercise with a small baby or toddler: Go walking! Put the baby in carriage or pram and walk for an hour in the air. Formal exercise classes such as a gym or other facility are not at all necessary for good health.
I advise all girls to go walking all through their pregnancy as it helps with the delivery. Then to continue doing it with their small ones. It helps the mother to get her shape back quickly, to get some fresh air, to air the baby too! Babies need a little sun so they don't get jaundiced!
It becomes a habit and is severely missed on days when they have to miss doing it. Hi,
There is no cure for Diabetes, but here are a few things that the young Mother should know.
She must follow a diabetic diet which is not hard to do once you get the hang of it. You can pretty much eat anything. It's more the amounts of certain foods and a routine of the time you eat, but NO greasy deep fried foods because your blood vessels are a huge part of this disease and you can't afford to damage them with greasy foods. It's not worth the consequences! Make sure to keep up with checking your blood sugar level and watch your blood PRESSURE. High blood pressure is what leads to the serious complications along with high blood sugar, such as Diabetic Retinopathy (it can take your eyesight) and Renal Failure (Kidneys, dialysis is no fun) but some doctors never mention the serious danger of high blood pressure in diabetics. Also find a smart doctor and ask questions. If you don't get answers or you are just rushed in and out....find another doctor.
I know these things from personal experience with my husband. He had Type 1 Diabetes for 48 years, since he was 8 years old and we went through ALL the serious complications for over 30 years, and found good doctors much later then we could have, had we known. I wish some of the early doctors would have explained things better.
Now the good news..... They have come a long way in the treatment of diabetes and there could very well be a cure before this young Mother has any serious complications. So she HAS to take care of herself now because the serious complications are irreversible. There is no cure for diabetes, but there are certain home remedies, which have proved to have lowered the blood sugar levels -
1) Take half a teaspoonful of powdered cinnamon stick in milk or water daily. Take care not to get hypoglycemic. This worked well for my mother who has a similar problem
2)An Ayurvedic herb called insulin plant - Chew up a leaf of this plant once in a day. It helps. But you must seek the help of the Ayurveda doctors to locate this plant and to decide upon the dosage. It can be grown near your house. diet for diabetes:
Objectives
To maintain adequate nutrition
To achieve and maintain desirable body weight
To maintain normal blood sugar levels
To prevent, delay or minimize the onset of chronic degenerative complications
Diet plays an important role in the treatment of diabetes. The diet may be used alone or in combination with insulin injections or oral hypoglycaemic drugs.
The diet plan of an individual is based on height, weight, age, sex, physical activity and nature of diabetes. One should consider the following points while planning a diabetic diet:
Determining energy requirements
Determining the type of carbohydrates, fibre and food preparations
Presence of any other complication such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels etc.
In case of insulin dependent diabetes mellitus, the energy intake is based on needs for normal growth and development, physical activity and maintenance of desirable body weight.
In case of non insulin dependant diabetes mellitus, the majority of patients are overweight or obese. Therefore, calorie restriction is required to achieve a desired weight.
Type of carbohydrate and amount of fibre: More of carbohydrate must be given as complex starches rather than simple sugars as they breakdown more slowly to release glucose in blood. The presence of fibre in complex carbohydrate like grains, vegetables and other starches slows the glucose absorption. One should emphasise more on the high fibre foods instead of high fibre supplements available in the market.
To remember
It is important to control the amount and time of food intake.
Meals should not be missed.
Consider the likes and dislikes of the patient.
Try to substitute the craving for sweet by taking some fruit.
Foods to be avoided
Glucose, sugar, honey, all sweets, chocolates and candies.
Foods to be restricted
Potatoes, yam, arbi, sweet potatoes, mangoes, grapes, bananas, alcoholic beverages, fried foods, paranthas, poories, pakoras, mathris, deep fried foods, dry fruits, salad oils, cakes and pastries.
Foods to be used freely
Green leafy vegetables, tomatoes, cucumber. radish, soups, buttermilk, tea and coffee without sugar. Hi Friend.
