What insurance companies are available for a 62 person with Diabetes?

62 year old needs health insurance in California. She has type 2 diabetes which has been under control for several years. However, she is ready to retire because no company will hire her.

How can she find health insurance?

here you can get quotes from different companies in your area.

Hate to burst your bubble, but insurance under Obama's plan is NOT free for the unemployed. It's reduced under COBRA for 9 months to 35% of the premium. After 9 months, it goes back up to 100%. Just a little FYI...

Anyway, check in California for state insurance. There are a lot of state that have their own insurance and they accept everyone, including those with pre-existing conditions. It may be pricey, but it's NOW coverage starting from the day you pay the premium.

Also, check out www.ehealthinsurance.com . They will take people with pre-existing conditions, but the downside with them is you have to wait 12 months before you can actually be covered for that condition. But I would start with the state first.

Lastly, if you has insurance now, check into COBRA. It's covers you for 18 months, 36 months if you can get your company to grant you an extension. It keeps your coverage the same as you're used to now. Just some ideas that I have had to figure out when I was terminated in March due to lack of work.

Tiredness can be a symptom of diabetes but is very non specific.
Your age and being overweight does increase your risk
Often a person in your age group will present with infections -commonly thrush/monilia as a vaginitis.. you can also present with a heart attack or stroke as a complication of diabetes. 1% of the population are diabetics another 1% are undiagnosed

The easiest way to set your mind at rest is to see your doctor for a blood/urine test.

I do know that unemployed people are now eligible for free medical insurance under Obama's plan, so she should be able to get it free until medicare kicks in, or get on some other Goverment plan. If all this fails, I would contact the American Diabetes Association and ask for their advice help etc. Hope this helps, good luck.

make use of the SE like google or yahoo to get some ideas first if you want to get the massive information, however if you do not want to spend so much time, here http://www.HealthInsuranceIdeas.info/fre... is a direct and good resource for your questions.

healthplans.my-age.net - here is my health insurance plan. As I remember they can provide such a service.

Have her check with AARP.
