What kind of tests do they preform when checking for diabetes?

Also, do they do urine samples? What if you're on your period? Then what do they do?

They do a fasting blood glucose test. Meaning you don't eat after 10pm and they check your level in the morning prior to eating or drinking anything. Your blood sugar level should be in the normal range at this point. Then they may test it after a meal to see how your body reacts to the food intake. This test also should be in the normal range. If your 2 readings aren't very close in number then there could be a problem. Other tests may be needed.

The best screening test for diabetes is a H1AC, which measures your blood sugar average for the previous few months.

Unlike other tests, it shows the longer term effects of poor blood sugar control.

Urine tests only show if your blood sugar is high enough to 'spill' into the urine, and blood tests can show unreliable results if a person fasts for a prolonged period of time.

A 'normal' H1AC is below 6.0

they do blood tests. one called an A1C test which measures the
blood sugar levels for the last three months. normal A1C is around
6 to 6.2. on a regular blood test a glucose reading of 110 and under
is normal. if you have a blood glucose reading of 126 or higher for
three consecutive days or more after fasting that's diabetes.

Glucose Tolerance Test (2-4 hours) usually to start off with and then an A1c (about every 90 days) to see how well you have it under control...

Of course, you'll have to use a Glucose Testing Monitor to keep a check on yourself in the meantime..

EDIT: If you happen to have a small amount of blood in your urine, it will not affect the urine test at all..

A urine sample is a medium term record of glucose levels for days.
A blood test is a short term snapshot at the time of the draw.
And there is a 4 hour fasting test which should be a real bore.

Average is about 90, I run higher but drop suddenly into unconsiousness and wake up (so far) on the floor.

Type 1 for 35 years.

Im pretty sure its a small blood test, where they prick your finger and test a drop of blood for glucose levels. Ive had it a few times and is not sore at all!
xx

Well, i've been checked twice for diabetes and both times it was a urine sample..

They checked my blood, gave me something to drink, and then checked it again in 4 hours.

I had a blood sample and a urine test.
I'm sure it wouldn't matter if you were on your period, but I'm not really sure..
