If you have type 1 diabetes what level should your blood sugar be?

I know its a range of where your blood sugar should be when you check it what exactly is that range. I want to make sure my friends is not too high or too low.

Well that's not your job and it can be annoying for your friend if you try to act like a parent and monitor it they will be extremely annoyed. But I like to bet with my friend about my numbers or let her know what they are and most should be between 80-140.

I worked for an endocrinologist for about a year and I also have a son who is diabetic. The endocrinologist I worked for always recommended a pre-meal blood sugar of 80-120 but, depending on age and health factors, that "normal range" could be a little higher or a little lower. The lower numbers mentioned in the other posts are for a hemoglobin A1c, which is the blood test done to see how well sugar levels are being controlled. Normal range for that is 5-7 in someone without diabetes so if a diabetic has that range, it means they have had good control. That test has to be done by a doctor or lab - that is not a test to be done at home to check a sugar level. Glucoscans are what are done at home to blood sugar.

my mom has been a type 1 diabetic for over 30 years and she is veeeery healthy and careful with her sugars. she tries to keep hers between 4 and 7 but often gets numbers under 4 (she has to eat immediately then). if she is testing over 9 she gets quite upset because of the complications caused by a high blood sugar. she'll then take extra insulin or have a smaller meal rather than a regular sized one. she also exercises A LOT and this has helped her to stay healthy too. if you monitor your sugars really closely you can almost completely remove the risk of diabetic complications (such as circulation and eye complications). like i said, she has been a type 1 for over 30 years and she still doesn't have one diabetic complication. good luck!

4 and 8 is a healthy blood level. Anything below 4 is a bit on the low side and you should take some sugary drink if your below 4. Anything below 8 is higher in which take plenty of exercise to lower this.

Try and keep between 4 and 8 as this can cause blindness and some serious problems in your life, but this is only caused if you have high or low blood sugars every day so don't worry, you've probably already been told this by your doctor :)

As close to normal as possible! Type 1's tend to fluctuate a lot more than Type 2's, so we try to identify patterns when possible and the rest of the time, we correct off numbers with insulin or glucose as soon as we can. Ideally before a meal we should be 80-110, and 2 hours after a meal we should be 110 - 150.

Your friend knows the answer to this and should not need you to monitor his/her blood sugar levels. Be a friend, don't try to be a nurse. If your friend needs help managing his/her diabetes, then he/she should be looking for this from their parents and health care providers.
