We have a black lab that has excessive dry skin and hair loss around his eyes, legs and butt . what is this? |
we have limited funds and we wonder has anyone else had this type of problem and how did you treat it? My lab recently began losing hair around his eyes and on his belly. I took him to the vet. Sounds pretty serious. Until you have the money to diagnose him the Field of probable causes is pretty wide. Allergies, bacteria, some kind of insect infestation all are possible. I guess all you can do is try to treat the symptoms until you find the definite cause. Try bathing him with a mild oatmeal shampoo you can find these in any pet store (not grocery store) or any other kind of soothing shampoo. If your poor dog seems to be itchy a lot you could also apply some cortizone cream you can buy in the first aid isle at a pharmacy. Be careful not to let him lick any areas you put the cream on. Good luck. It could be an allergy to food, fleas, etc. It could also be another skin disorder. Go to the vet to find out. Your dog is probably uncomfortable, so the sooner the better. A serious skin condition. Take your dog to your vet for skin scrappings, diagnosis and medication. Your dog is miserable. ringworm treat with antifungal medicine or shampoo |
