No you can go to your local drugstore such as Walgreens, CVS, Longs Drugs, or Rite Aid and purchase eye drops over the counter made for dry eyes. Visine is one brand, but there are many others, and personally, I don't think Visine works well for dry eyes. You can also purchase eye drops for dry eyes at discount stores such as Walmart and Target. You can purchase a wide variety of eye drops over the counter including eye drops for itching and burning eyes, redness relief, dry eyes, moisturizing drops, and even antihistamine eye drops for allergy eyes.

There are a number of things going on with the dry eye thing.

The base tear function produces tears with mucus, 'water' and oil. As you age, your ocular surface becomes more experienced and can handle the different antigens better. It recognizes pollens, recognizes bacteria, keeps the surface clean and bacteria free, moisturized, lubricated...

The mucus helps keeps things smooth, the water hydrates and carries the nutrients and antibacterial substances, salts, gases, and the oil sort of smooths the surface and helps prevent or slow evaporation.

Each person will have her/his own tear balance. Some people will produce a little less of the oil, or the water or of a combination oil and mucus or ...
So ANY of the tears could help. But only a few will provide you with what YOU are 'missing'. Once you find that tear, your eyes will say
