Question about reflux (GERD)? |
our son is almost 9 months old. We had to change his formula about a month ago b/c he started spitting up/throwing up so badly...so we put him on soy from sensitive RS (he was on sensitive RS for his reflux). He's still spitting up a good bit but not as bad as it was a month ago. We go for his 9 month appointment on Tuesday and I was just wondering what they would probably do for his reflux now... right now we are adding 5 tsp of rice cereal in his 6 ounce bottles and 3 tsp in his 4.5 ounce bottles... There's not too much they can do for the actual spitting up. The medication they put them on doesn't reduce it, it just changes the acidity level of the spit up, so it doesn't hurt, and irritate the esophagus. Is he in pain when he spits up? If he is still a reletivly happy baby, he's probably just whats known as a "happy spitter"! Some babies just spit up more then others. Your dr might put him on stomach medicine. Mine went thru the same thing but his started @1.5 months. He did the change formula then thicker formula with rice starch added. Then we did medicine, and rice cereal added but nothing was helping. When we started him on solids (baby puree) that seemed to stay down. When he progressed onto solids we didnt have any problem with him throwing up at all. We started him on solids as early as we could an he was eating mostly solids @9 months. Feed your baby. He is old enough. I've had several in my family that had this problem. One as early as 4 months and we started her on strained jar foods. The reflux was reduced dramatically from every feeding to nearly none. |
