Do I have GERD? Acid reflux? |
For the past three months I have experienced acid coming back up to my throat. Some days I feel bloated and burp a lot. I have quit drinking and changed my diet. Recently, I started the Alkaline diet. It seemed to work at first but today it came back. I usually feel better when I lay down which is opposite of what everyone else says. I wake up feeling great but after I eat something it comes back. I have been taking omaprazole and it doesn't seem to do much. Not sure what I have. I'm living in Japan so going to the doctor is difficult, I can't find one that speaks good English, that is why I am here. They keep saying GERD but I'm not sure. Thanks for any help! I need it!!! For years I experienced GERD and tried to ignore it, but as you know it is hard to do so. My doctor advised me to lose weight and that helped a bit. He also told me to raise the head of my bed by a few inches and I put blocks of wood under both legs at the head of the bed. I was also advised to not drink coffee, tea or other caffeinated beverages. Alcohol and even wine were on my avoidance list. Spicy foods and also ones with tomatoes and onions were to be avoided as they increased the acid level in my stomach. I was directed not to eat or drink anything at least 3 hours before I went to bed, not even a sip of water. I also was told to keep the portions of food I ate at one time on the small size and eat simpler foods that were not fried or heavily spiced. I was given a prescription antacid and that also helped. Your symptoms may be the result of GERD, hiatal hernia or something else. I have never heard of the Alkaline diet and my doctor never mentioned it, as well. I suspect going from a very acidy stomach to a very alkaline one might just cause other problems. How am I currently doing. I have not had problems in years and I am pleased. Still have to watch what I eat but I do not mind. |
