Aminocentesis or genetic testing of father??

hello i have sickle cell anemia and im prego 13 weeks my genetics counselor suggested either i don the aminocentesis or the father be tested.... very cnfused at this point b/c the father has no insurance and would have to pay out of pocket...but thats not the concern the concern is should i do the aminocentesis or just get him tested...HELP

The blood test for the father is FAR less invasive and MUCH safer than an amniocentesis. I think you already have your answer. Would you rather pay out of pocket for a simple blood test or put yourself and your baby at risk when it's absolutely unnecessary to do so? An amniocentesis IS a vital diagnostic tool if and when it's needed. However, based on the information you've provided, it's not necessary in this case.
