Treatment for genital herpes?

My friend found out he has herpes- what kinds of treatments are available? i know there is no cure. How effective are these treatments so he doesnt spread the herpes to his wife? Can he still spread it to her if there is no outbreak

There are a few different kinds of treatments that he could use.
There are natural treatments like Lysine and there are pharmaceutical treatments like Valtrex and Famvir that are used to treat herpes. There are also topical treatments like H-Balm that are available to treat herpes.
The treatments work to reduce your chances of spreading herpes on but even with treatment and no out break there is still a slight risk that he could pass herpes on mostly because of viral shedding which happens in between out breaks and is undetectable.
There is no cure for herpes. There are wonderful suppressants out there that can help reduce the number of out breaks you have per month/year. If he is interested in seeking treatment then he should talk to his doctor, they should try to find one that is right for him to use.
There is only a slight chance of passing herpes on if he uses regular treatment and NEVER has sex when he thinks he is having an out break. Doing all of that should help reduce his risk of passing herpes on. His wife should also be informed that he has herpes if she hasn't been all ready.

There are at least two pills that will lessen the frequency of outbreaks- acyclovir (sometimes called zovirax) is a generic pill that's good if your friend doesn't have health insurance, because it's on most pharmacies' $4/$9 lists. The downside is that it has to be taken twice a day, which can get annoying. Valtrex is a once-a-day name brand pill that's very effective as well. Tell him not to let a doctor talk him into Valtrex if he can't afford it- acyclovir in the right doses is just as effective. Both can be taken only during outbreaks as well, if your friend decides he doesn't want to go on daily suppressive therapy.

As far as spreading it- both medications help lessen the chances of his passing it on to anyone. He is always contagious during an outbreak. Between outbreaks he might still be contagious. He should learn to look for signs of outbreaks- tingling, itching, etc. If he decides not to go on daily suppressive therapy, he should start medications as soon as he feels the warning signs of an outbreak. If he's on daily suppressive therapy and avoids sex during outbreaks and when he feels one coming on, his chances of spreading it to his wife are very, very low, even through unprotected sex. This doesn't mean he shouldn't tell her.

He can also make sure to keep his immune system up- daily multivitamis, exercise, getting enough sleep, drinking lots of water, and staying as stress-free as possible are important. Herpes attacks when your immune system is low. Staying healthy is one of the best ways to combat it.

Herpes is a pain, but the thing to remember is that it is not life threatening, it doesn't cause infertility or any other catastrophic ills, and it often becomes less active over time. He should be open with his wife about it, but it's not the end of the world.

it is said that no one can ever be fully cure from herpes but with a good diet, plenty of sleep and all the other things that help the immune system stay strong, then you have a better chance of controlling it.

he is basically screwed the treatments are effective but not one hundred percent and yes he can give her his herpes even without an outbreak but being carful really can help

they have condoms specifically for this they are like shorts with a hole in them kinda pricy tho
