Why can't people with high blood pressure take certain meds?

So If ur on a hbp med why does it say not to take certain meds? What happens does it speed up the heart or block ingredients in the meds?

Certain medications may increase your heart rate, which will in turn make your BP higher, such as ventolin (a drug used to treat asthma or COPD). If you are taking blood pressure medicine, there may even be interactions between different drugs. So if you have high blood pressure. I suggest you first discuss with your Dr whether you should be put on a medication, and then, if you would need another medication, always notify your Dr that you have high blood pressure and what medication you are on (but your dr should have asked you before he prescribes, hehe)

Different meds have different interactions and side effects. Some may block the bp med, some raise bp. Sometimes two meds together may cause an unsafe drop in bp.
Some antacids will block the action of some bp meds. Antihistamines containing pseudoephedrine will raise bp. Nitrates will sometimes lower the bp too much when taken with bp meds. There are others ,but those are the ones I can think of right now.

Because some medications make the blood pressure go up. So if you are suffering from High Blood Pressure & are on medication for it, consult a Pharmacist or your doctor before taking any medications. When I have a cold, I am advised not to take anything that has a decongestant in it because it will raise my blood pressure.

most meds that are to be avoided are those that can cause an elevation in blood pressure... pointless to take meds to control bp and then take something that elevates blood pressure.

Everybody is different...it can do either or both!

Some meds cause your b/p to rise and some lower it
some ingredient's in the meds can also cause changes

because it can alter the persons blood pressure or cause it become much more serious.
