What are the symptoms and differences between High Blood Pressure and Low Blood Pressure?

What are the symptoms and differences between High Blood Pressure and Low Blood Pressure?

Hypertension is abnormally high blood pressure, while Hypotension is abnormally low blood pressure.

Hypertension is "repeatedly elevated" blood pressure exceeding 140/90 - a systolic pressure above 140 with a diastolic pressure above 90. It has often been called the silent killer. It usually occurs without any symptoms for years, until it finally damages certain critical organs. It can develop into something more severe like kidney failure, impaired vision, heart attack, stroke and death. Anyone can develop high blood pressure, but it tends to be more common in African-Americans. It happens at an earlier age, and is more severe. A person can experience headaches, dizziness, shortness of breath, nausea and blurred vision. High salt intake, obesity, lack of regular exercise, excessive alcohol or coffee intake, smoking, and stress are all factors. It is also hereditary, meaning it may run in your family.

Hypotension, is pressure so low it causes symptoms or signs due to the low flow of blood through the arteries and veins. When the flow of blood is too low to deliver enough oxygen and nutrients to vital organs such as the brain, heart, and kidney, the organs do not function normally and may be permanently damaged. Normal blood pressure is usually in the range of 120/80. Low blood pressure "can be" considered less than 90/60, but that's for your doctor to evaluate. If the blood pressure is low, standing can make the low pressure worse, to the point of causing symptoms - lightheadedness, dizziness, weakness or fainting. It can also cause moodiness, depression, fatigue, unusual thirst and cold, pale skin. Unlike high blood pressure, low blood pressure is defined primarily by signs and symptoms.
