Someone without infertility problems taking clomid?

my sister told me she wants to have triplets, its been her "life long dream" but she doesnt think she would ever be able to on her own. she talked to her doc, and he said she could do clomid to get multis.

isnt this dangerous??? what WOULD taking clomid w/o infertility probs do to your body? would it make you produce more eggs or could it cause serious damage..

I care for my sis.. but dont want to hurt her feelings by sayin she shouldnt do it..plus im not educated on ths subject so PLEASE HELP! thanks

Tell her to be very very careful hunnie...I've heard of people who were prescribed Clomid for infertility problems who had hyperstimulation to their ovaries and now have bigger problems conceiving due to the clomid.

I have a hard time believing that a doctor would prescribe fertility drugs if a woman has no problem conceiving. It is not common for Clomid to produce multiples. It is possible, but usually occurs by accident through trial and error. In these circumstances, the drug is administered in such a fashion that the drug actually hyper-simulates the ovaries thus releasing multiple eggs. Doctors try to avoid this at all cost. They start off prescribing lower doses and in subsequent cycles, they would increase the dose..slowly. For a doctor to prescribe this drug to a woman who is able to conceive on her own is unheard of, but for a doctor to intentionally attempt to overstimulate the ovaries using this drug is the height of irresponsibility. Why would anyone even want to see a doctor who would be SO foolish??
I am 22 weeks pregnant with triplets via an IUI and have been on bed rest since week 12. I have had a surgery to stitch my cervix closed and the outcome of this pregnancy is not guaranteed. The risk involved with this pregnancy is enormous. I will do anything and everything to protect my babies but carrying multiples is NOT easy.

The issue with multiples is that you have a much higher chance of there being health issues. Plus multiples have a much higher chance of being born premature, which can result in health issues. Plus does she realise how hard it would be to take care of triplets???

If you're ready to be a parent, you should want the best for your children and should want to do whats best for them even before they're born. You should be willing to sacrifice anything you want, for what your child needs, and for your childs health.

If she doesn't realise that the added risk of triplets isnt worth it for a healthy young girl who has no fertility problems, she obviously isn't ready to be a mom.

And that doc should lose his license, as should the doc from the octo mom.

no doc in there right mind would say take cloimd...u can only take it for 6 months in ur life as it can harm and they class triplets as high rish why would they out a lady at risk....i think u want 3 baby's.

No decent doctor would EVER prescribe ovulation enhancement drugs just because someone want to have triplets unless that patient has fertility problems. (Yeah, octomom - that's a fluke , and her doctor is being investigated....)

I had Clomid and had a beautiful boy (who is now 22 years old) - just one, but had preterm labor and preeclampia, and he has a mild heart arrhythmia since birth (actualy it was diagnosed in utero)

Nobody says these issues were caused by Clomid, but none said no either

I am very happy that CLomid was available and it worked for me but not for a frivolous "lifelong dream ot have triplets"

Clomid Side Effects
Enlarged ovaries, hot flashes, and abdominal or pelvic pain are some of the most common side effects seen with Clomid. Side effects that are less common and occur in less than 1 percent of patients may include constipation, diarrhea, and fatigue. Although most Clomid side effects are considered minor, certain side effects should be reported to your healthcare provider immediately, including any signs of an allergic reaction, changes in vision, or severe abdominal pain.
