Mumps in childhood and infertility in later life? |
Hi there, Mumps in puberty and adulthood can cause fertilty issues. However, this fact should have come up during the medical work-up, and his sperm would have been tested. (It would be tested anyway.) If the count and motility are normal, then this obviously isn't the problem. the only way Mumps would be cause of concern is if he had them in his genitals. (does not matter the age) I believe it's only when men have mumps as adults that complications can affect fertility. I think it depends what age he was when he caught it - if he was very young then i don't think it would affect fertility but if it happened during or after puberty then yes it can affect fertility |
