I have been diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome. is my career and further study ruined? what to do now?

I have chronic abdominal pains and often after eating, I immediately have to go to the toilet. I have bowel movements many times a day. I also feel bloated many times and excessive gas is generated.

With all these symptoms, I feel I cannot keep up with my life anymore. I have stopped looking for work now, because I don't think I can last 8 hours on a job without any pain or without going to the toilet excessively. And i feel my career has been ruined because of this.

I feel I am disabled now. And i can't take much classes at university either and neither can i workout or exercise anymore. I have trouble sleeping too.

I have been put on intestinal medications but they don't help much. I had colonoscopy done and that was normal. The gastro-enterologist said i have to make food adjustments. But i don't know what food adjustments to make. I don't know what foods to avoid and what to eat. I have loss of appetite and have lost lot of weight too.

Is my life ruined now? What am I to do?

i' m 31 year old. i am 6 feet and weigh 178 lbs. In november 2008 i weighed 199 lbs.
