Any one getting the injections for macular degeneration?

What is the best treatment for macular degeneration (dry), and are any of you receiving the drops? Or just thePreserVision Tablets. I also hear they are now trying injections in the eye not just for the wet, but also the dry degeneration of the macula.

My mother is getting the injections. She tells me sometimes that if they hit a capillary in the eye, it will bleed and turn the white of her eye black. She said she looks like an alien when that happens. She got pretty depressed after the first injection because that happened. But she has had more, and they seem to be helping. She was unable to read before the injections, but she can read for a while now. I am not sure if she has dry or wet MD. She will be 82 this May, still drives, and gets around ok. She doesn't drive at night. She lives alone in a subsidized highrise for seniors.

Edit: Oh, and Medicare pays for the injections.

I'll take my chances with nature. I don't want to chance what's left of my eyesight to some new foolish idea on what might work. I'm losing my eyesight & I just have to learn to adapt to that. I try to keep my eyes wet with eye-drops when needed & I won't be getting any type of injections that could cause other problems. I know my body & I know what I feel comfortable with. It's a personal decision on my part & I'm not attempting to dissway others from using this new procedure/technology.

I have heard that as well Anne.
Lucentis is indicated for patients with wet age-related macular degeneration, but there is an operation coming out to repair the damaged part of the eye.

Anne dry M.D. usually turns to wet, and it is then they can treat it, I have had 5 eye
operations that is why I know about it.
I am using Maxidex eye drops, that is steroid.

Do these new treatments actually work? How new are they and how would we get a Dr to try either/or to help a 73 year old, losing his sight by the week? I took notes off here and am going to send this information along next Dr visit.

Periodic injections of Lucentis or Aventis have helped many people with MD. I understand from a friend who has had this form of treatment, that there is no pain involved since the eyes are given a local anesthetic.

I am not a muscular degenerate! ( That is what you typed, right?)

(ok, maybe a little bit of a degenerate but I am giving it up for Lent)

I hadn't heard about the injections but as soon as I submit this I'm headed for a web site to find out about them my great uncle has it and if I can find anything to help him I will. Thanks a lot...

The injections cost 拢900 00, a shot they are not cheap.

This is news to me. Hope it works.

I'm not, but my neighbor is..she said it seems to help..she is mid 80s and medicare takes care of the bill. It runs about $1000.00 an injection..
