What can an 83 year old woman with dementia and macular degeneration (legally blind) do? |
My grandmother is 83 years old and full of fire. She can't stand sitting home doing nothing. She has dementia from a stroke she suffered 2 years ago and has macular degeneration causing her to not see very well. This causes her to not be able to watch tv but she will occasionally listen to it. She obviously can't drive although she will tell you different. lol. She's a spitfire I tell you. My mother has bought many crafts for her to do but she doesn't want to do them. She also refuses to go to adult day care or to the senior center. She is so bored. Any suggestions on things she can do other than her usual cleaning that won't tire her out too quickly. Sitting around doing nothing is making her older. It's just not her thing. If she won't go to the senior center, maybe she could volunteer at a nursing home or something like that. It sounds like she would be really wonderful at having conversations with people her own age, and she could bring some conversation and friendship to someone who might not have any friends or family nearby to visit with them. That is so very sad. By any chance are there any school aged children in the family that can visit her and maybe read the newspaper or short stories to her because this would enable them to help each other while improving reading skills for the young ones or maybe have her tell them funny or favorite stories about herself or family history that they can write about perhaps? hello. |
