Logic Gel for cats (oral health care)?

My two 8 month old cats have both got a gum infection (red swelling around teeth) the vet says it is at a early stage and with proper treatment should clear up. He advise me to use Logic Gel for them, so I have got some today, following the instructions I applied 1cm worth of gel to each of the cats paws. They did then lick it off, great it is going into the mouth! My question is this:

For cat owners who have used this stuff:
Does it work well?
How long till I start seeing results?

Also what causes this and how can i prevent it again?

There diet I thought was good, they have Science Plan Sensitive Stomach and a Pro Plan Sensitive (they both had sensitive stomachs and them eating this stuff has worked wonders) and now have got Science Plan Oral to help with teeth. Plenty of water, and only have wet food once or twice a week, and rarely any tip bits (chicken, ham etc)

I do have 17 years of cats experience but have not come across this problem with cats before, so hence i'm asking for advice.

I think that you are treating the cats properly. Continue applying the gel, and eventually they will heal. If not, talk to the vet to seek more advice. I hope I helped, good luck and farewell.
