What are some symptoms of advanced osteoarthritis in the neck and how is it treated?

The doctor found this with an x-ray but didn't explain any thing to me. If you have had to deal with this could you give me an idea of what questions I should ask him, any personal info on this would be appreciated. Thank you

Symptom of osteoarthritis in the neck is neck pain. The pain may be more prominent when you turn your head or flex and extend the neck. Pain can travel down either arm or shoulders. If the spinal canal is narrowed either congenitally (born that way) or due to disc bulges or bony (arthritic) overgrowth or a combination of both, pain can become severe and surgery may be recommended to relieve the pressure on the spinal cord.
Otherwise the treatment is symptomatic ie. cervical collar and/or anti-inflammatory medicines.

The most common symptom of advanced osteoarthritis is a reduction in the range of motion of the affected joints. Neck pain, shoulder pains, headache, etc. may also be present.

It sounds like you only consulted with a medical doctor - they have NO effective treatment options for this condition. It may be wise to have a thorough evaluation by your family Chiropractor. Treating this type of condition is their 'bread and butter'.

Best wishes and good luck.
