Would moving to a warmer climate help allay the pain of osteoarthritis?

Does anyone have experience with the improvement of arthritic pain after moving south?

I don't know if this would help with osteoarthritis. My Mom has rheumatoid arthritis, and living in a warm (hot, actually, most of the year) place didn't help her to improve, at all. What helped was finding the right medicine for her (after many years of trying different medicines and treatments that didn't work), and exercising, especially swimming.

I hope that you find people that can give you better answers, and better advice, and I hope you find a solution for your pain, and get/feel better soon!!

Best of luck to you, my friend!!

Hugs!!

Thank you, my friend!! :)

It's kind of a trade off. Sometimes you have to live where you can make a living, visit family, and so on.

I have aches and pains of osteoarthritis, but not bad. A heating pad gives me comfort and relief. I had a friend who used a hot tub each morning and each evening because his arthritis was so troublesome. The climate itself may give you some comfort, but frequently the heat needs to be concentrated on a specific part, and a hot soak or a heating pad would be more manageable than uprooting yourself and moving.

However, if the cold winters keep you from being able to manage your day to day routine, then by all means, go where it is warmer, at least part of the year. "Snow birds" is a common name for the elders who live in Nebraska and Colorado and Minnesota and Vermont and so on who come to live in the Brownsville, TX and Mesa AZ areas each winter, and move back in the spring. West Texas isn't too cold and doesn't have the humidity of Houston or Corpus Christy, and I do like it here.

I live in a very mild climate & suffer osteo- arthritis very much . Hubby has Gout & arthritis & has been in agony this year .
My gram moved to Arizona to help her , but all it did was make her warmer & not alleviate her intense pain .
I do hope you can find some relief for yourself . I know how it feels . D :)

Personally I HAVE known people including my grandfather who had it...and then moved from New York to Hawaii....where I was born.....I on the other hand loathe sunny weather...and am incredibly photosensitive.....I have the same condition and I am heat sensitive.....I cannot stand the warmer climates AT ALL. 78 degrees is about all I can do.....really. I just puff up like a blow fish....I am the exception...and I have to accept that....but yes...if your condition warrants a move then by all means do it!

I have heard it helps, but I haven't experienced it first hand.
I am pretty sure it would since cold & damp weather is bad on our bones.

I'm so sick of the cold and ice I'm just going to say yes in hopes you'll take me with you :)
