Stretches/exercises for osteoarthritis of the spine?

My dad has osteoarthritis and osteopenia in his low back. Additionally, he has a slipped disc. Are there any stretches or exercises that can help lessen his pain?

Hi, I know exactly what your Dad is going through, I have the same with a few extra's on top. I have been getting physio done for over several weeks with lower back exercises and would suggest he go to a sports physio ASAP.
In the meantime try this site I certainly found it interesting and it has a few good exercises to do which in my case does not hurt.

Well, I have osteopenia in my back and my family Dr. referred me to a physical therapist and it really hurt at first because they have to do an evaluation and i didn't like them very much the first couple of visits!he-he..but they gave me literature to show me how to do very productive stretches at home. You may get online and see if their are any there but i am satisfied with the ones i got from the physical therapist. I believe you have to be referred but his insurance should cover it. As far as the slipped disc a spinal specialist should help that. He unfortunately needs to go to his regular Dr. to get referrals so his insurance will cover the visit with the spinal specialist and actually he also gave me literature that showed me perfect stretching when my back is wound up TIGHT!! So, he may not have to go to physical therapy after all! Well, Good Luck and i hope i helped alittle.
