Pain management for kids?

The hospital is happy for my son to take ibuprofen, paracetamol or co-codamol long term for pain relief while he awaits an MRI scan for dislocated shoulder. I am not happy with this due to long term side effect risks. Can you suggest anything else? Thanks.

obiously the stupid doctors that went to medical school for 7 years should go back and do it all agin.....

for crying out loud if they are happy for him to have those medications then let him have them...there are pretty much no long term effects of ibuprofen or paracetamol ....infact there is nothing to worry about if the doctors gave it the okay....over a couple of days he might take something like 2 grams paracetemol ?? i know long term users that take 4 grams a day !! they are in fine health apart from chronic leg/arm/neck injuries

Well the MRI results shouldn't take that long to come in... what 2 days 5 days max? That is not long enough to cause problems. Most other pain meds would probally cause more damage. And other pain relief methods might not take away enough pain
