Was released from pain management for non compliance what now?

I am two months post opt. lower lumbar fusion with hardware. since the surgery i have been in great pain i was taking dialudid 5x a day. i had a near fall about two weeks ago. and was rushed to the e.r. were i informed the e.r.doc i was taking dialudid. however she told me that dilaudid was only for breakthrough pain only and wrote me a script for percocet 10/325. for long term pain control needless to say when i went back to my pain management. i was released from his care for violating the narcotic agreement i signed back in 2006.now i have no meds feel awful and don't know were to turn to.if anyone else has ever gone through anything like this i would love to know what you did. and what advice you may offer many thanks.

my primary did refer me to pain manegement in a different town but that doctor said i was to complex a patient

*They generally release for non compliance for:

breaking to many appointments

get to upset and loosing it in the office with the doctor
not following directions

urine test came back bad meaning you were abusing the meds given you or you were taking some narcotic you did not disclose to the doctor, or illegal drugs.

I am thinking the ER doctor got mean with your pain doctor. The ER doctor was wrong by the way. There are several reasons to prescribe break threw pain meds that simple untrained ER docs are not aware of due to that not being their specialty. I doubt if you will find a pain specialist that will touch you now. Go back to the ortho. Back surgery's take a year or more to get over.

Don't you have a family doctor? I am sure that you can get referred to a different pain management doctor but in the meantime call your family doctor and have him/her call in a script for you.

Your primary doctor can and more than likely give you a prescription.

By two months post op you should be having close to no pain. I have done over 12,000 operations over the years and it is for this very reason that I am very selective who gets surgery and who doesn't as clearly some people will be made worse by cutting. I have no clue why the initial surgery was done but suspect it was for a disc herniation and the fusion was to try to limit motion and thereby create more stability and less pain.
As for the pain meds.. narcotics actually make you feel pain alot more since they hijack the body's own endorphins (natural painkillers) and stop its production.
If you want to send me an email I'd be happy to personally discuss your situation.

Even though the 5 Dilaudid a day was what your pain management doctor was writing, just two months of this can lead to narcotic dependency and addiction. Your pain management doctor is not doing you a favor by giving you these medications.

Find another Pain Management doctor--one that is willing to find other means to reduce your pain.
Often the pain may be secondary to the surgery and may originate from the muscular area.

Try different modalities like: Massage, physical therapy or even get a TENS unit.

Otherwise, you will find yourself addicted to narcotics and unable to get off of them. These are strong drugs that change the chemical composition in the brain.

My brother (a well-educated guy) had surgery and he too was prescribed a strong narcotic. 4 months later he was still taking it. Long story short, he nearly lost his job and wound up going to rehab.

Prescription pain medication has reached epidemic proportions as abused medications.
Many doctors have become very aware of this. Those who prescribe too much may be under close scrunity.

Do yourself a favor and find a doctor who is able to get to the source of your pain.
