Trigeminal Neuralgia Pain Management / Medication?

I was in to see my regular family practice doc today and we have come to the conclusion that I have TN, Long story short i was given a script for oxycodone 5/325 for kidneys, and i have been using for my facial pain along with my amitriptyline. but my doc today wouldn't fill my script for the analgesic, he just wants to up the dose on the amitrip. which is fine but would still be nice to have percocet for my BREAK THRU PAIN that hurts like non-other! i have another app. with my neuro next monday, can i expect better pain meds? are opiates a helpful treatment for TN? For me they seem to help a ton when i have them.

--Any suggestions on what to bring up, tell my neuro?
--what pain meds are you on?

Have you tried Tegretol? That is the first medicine I use for Trigeminal Neuralgia. It has about, oh I would say, a 55% success rate in treating this condition.

Generally, opioids are of little benefit in this condition. I typically on use them after we have tried everything and nothing has worked.

If you find that the Percocet works for you, I would suggest trying it in combination with Tegretol and see what kind of relief that we can get you. I have no problem with you taking the Percocet, I just think that we could get you more comfortable adding in the Tegretol.

Be Well!
