Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

I went to the doctors today and she thinks that I have this condition..
My husband and I are trying to start a family and where wondering is this going to stop it from happening..I would like to hear from like-minded people who have this same problem and do have children
Thankyou :)

Hi there, i was diagnosed with pcos 5 years ago. the doctors told me that it CAN (but not always) affect fertility, so my fiancee and i decided even though we are young that we would try to conceive as we really wanted children...no joy 3+ years later but after alot of reasearch on the net we found that the key to controling pcos is in diet and excercise. and within a year of changing my lifestyle we conceived our son. my son is now 9 months old and i am 5 months pregnant with no2 ( a happy accident beleive it or not...like busses see :-) ) anyway the moral to what i am saying is, many women do find it hard to conceive with pcos but with a few changes to your lifestyle you can maximise your chances!! and it does happen! good luck xxx

I have PCOS. I have 2 children and one on the way. I've also had 3 miscarriages. PCOS can make it harder to get pregnant and stay pregnant. If you do get diagnosed I suggest seeing a reproductive endocrinologist. PCOS can cause other problems than just difficulty getting pregnant. Mine caused multiple miscarriages. Now that I know that I can take precautions and steps to try and reduce that risk.

One of the best treatments for it is a drug called metformin/glucophage. It helped me get pregnant and also helped me keep this pregnancy in reducing my miscarriage risk.

There are a few things you can do as well. Following a lower carb and high fiber/protein diet is a good start. It helps regulate your insulin levels which can be messed up due to the PCOS. It can also facilitate some weight loss which is also difficult for some of us with PCOS. Even losing 5-10 lbs can help regulate your cycle and reduce the complications of PCOS.

For me personally following the diet along with the metformin helped me lose some weight and regulate my cycle into ovulating. Continueing the metformin through the first 13 weeks helped me keep this pregnancy going. Good luck

Don't worry hon, all is not lost.

My Granddaughter has this condition and she was told she would not be able to have children.

Now, about 8 years later she has a 5year old girl and a one month old girl. She plans on trying to have a boy.

Good Luck and God Bless
