Ultrasound tech says she sees no cysts, doc says I still have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome? |
I have had a lot of issues surrounding my cycle including a lot of pain especially during intercourse and abnormal bleeding. My doc diagnosed me at 15 with PCOS because I am overweight with my weight centering in my midsection, I have a lot of facial hair issues, very severe acne that even minocyclin doesnt seem to clear up, bad mood swings, irregular actually mostly absent periods, and these weird brown patches on my chest, neck, and underarms. She said I show almost every symptom. She did an ultrasound because of the pain during intercourse and it showed my uterine lining was ok (meaning not ridiculously thick), my reproductive organs looked good, and that no cysts were visible. At the beginning of the visit the ultrasound tech said they diagnose PCOS when they see cysts, and that without the cysts I dont have it. I told my doc this she said its absolutely not true that I still have it and that because I am on depo my cysts may come and go or my cysts may simply be small (she said even small cysts can greatly affect the body). But then she did a full blood work up because I had a severe strep b infection in my kidneys, bladder, and vagina and she wanted to make sure there were no traces in my blood, and when she got the results back she said my hormone levels were within normal range.I asked how this could be and she said I might have had low progestrone (I have had a suspected chemical pregnancy) and that the depo may have just evened that out. I'm so confused...any advice? If you are on hormones, that's going to mess with your blood tests. Depro-Provera is a shot of progestin and one of the ways that it works is that it suppresses ovulation. No ovulation, no cysts. |
