My teen daughter has had her period for over a month could this be pcos( polycystic ovary syndrome?

It has been very heavy and its been over a month actually its been 3 so could is be polycystic ovary syndrome or is it something else? what do you think?

she has never had sex or anything and shes been on it for a long time!! But she wont go to the docter she is to scared she doesnt want them to do an exam will they if she is bleeding or will they put her on something? And will they just ask her questions i need help please! or is this normal for a teen?

That's not enough information to really be able to tell if she has PCOS.
Usually you have very sporadic periods if you get one at all. If they're sporadic and you go months without having a period and finally do get one, it can be VERY heavy lasting for days and days...but I have never had one last for anywhere near 3 months and never heard of that happenening with this disease. Also, she would have other symptoms.

At any rate, this bleeding has gone on far too long and she needs to see a doctor. She can become anemic if she's not already.

I work in an endocrinology clinic, and we see many girls with PCOS. While irregular periods are a symptom, most of the time other symptoms accompany this. Mostly, is you daughter considered overweight? Does she have excessive hair growth?

Also, you may want to keep in mind that in a teenage girl who has recently started periods, it is every bit of normal for her to have irregular periods for the few couple YEARS. We always tell our patients this.

When I was a teenager I went through the same thing with extremely irregular periods. I would have very heavy bleeding, have a period for a few weeks, and then not have on at all.. it was very inconsitent. Your daughter simply may need to go on Birth Control to help regulate her periods.

If you are very concerned or if she has the symptoms mentioned above, as well, go see a Doctor, it can't hurt!

The same thing happened to me in 1992; only I bled for a year, but I am an adult. My Gyn said it was due to me not ovulating. I also have PCOS (since my late teens), but was misdiagnosed until 1993.

Your daughter may or may not have PCOS. Bleeding that long can be from anything from PCOS to Cancer so take her to the Gyn to find out what the cause is and proper treatment.

i bled for a month straight before i found out that i was really prego and that the pregnancy had turned into an ectopic or tubal prego. Obviously i was bleeding internally and it was being released through my vagina.

another reason she could be bleeding could be from an abortion.
she could have a cyst or a blood clot becuase theres still stuff inside of her.

ask her if she's had unprotected sex.... But really as a mother you should take her the doctors asap.

I went straight to the ER for mine.

dont wait this out!

I really think you should go to the doctor, I had the same thing a few years ago and ended up going anaemic, which wasn't very nice at all. The doctor could find nothing wrong with me, so they put me on the pill and I have had no problems since.

if shes been bleeding for a month take her to the DR, free clinic or planned parenthood asap. Whatever is causing it is not good and could create future complications. best to act now

i think its time for her to go to a doctor hun, that's not normal and sorry but we really cant diagnose her on here. i hope shes okay though. good luck :)
