Are there any antidepressant/mood stablilizer/antipsychotic medications SAFE for pregnancy? |
I'd like to have kids someday but it's impossible for me to go off my medications (Lamictal, Lexapro, and Abilify). Are my medications OR any similar medications SAFE to use during pregnancy? I was told by doctors that many of them including Prozac are safe for use during pregnancy. Years later, I'm seeing articles about lawsuits involving those medications causing major birth defects. I definitely wouldn't risk taking them during pregnancy. Even if your doctor tells you it is alright to do so or the side effects don't list it, there's still the possibility that the medications haven't been tested well enough or even that the companies manufacturing it withheld information to boost their sales. It's happened too many times for them to be trusted. I know someone who took a low dose of Abilify while pregnant, but other than that, this is really a question you should be asking your doctor, not a bunch of strangers online. you really need to talk to your Dr. or your pharmacist about this! |
