What can I do to prepare my kids for mommy going into surgery? |
I am a stay at home young mom with 2 kids (5yrs and 9yrs) I will be going in for a hip replacement surgery. I have no idea on how to prepare my kids for that. Please help!!! Just tell them that mommy has a broken piece and has to get it fixed. Buy a puzzle and show them how it's put together and let them know that the doctor is gonna fix your puzzle. because they are so young, you really shouldn't go into every single detail about what's going to happen, but instead, slowly ease them into it. Tell them little by little until the surgery, or try telling them stories about what the doctor will do, kinda to make it less scary for the kids. Tell them that you'll be ok and that you are going to go to sleep in the doctors and that they're gonna fix your boo-boo...or something along that line...because they are so young, you don't want to scare them by telling them like "oh mommy's gonna go to the hospital and the doctors are gonna cut her hip open etc..." see you gotta look at it in the eyes of a 9 and 5 year old child, and think "if i was 9 or 5, what would scare me?" and then like i said, slowlyy tell them, or just sit them down one day and tell them, like "Mommy is going to go to the doctors (the date) and I'm going to go to sleep and they're gonna fix a boo-boo on my hip." and you could show them where you're "boo-boo" is if you wanted, just so they know...and then there will be times where they'll tell you that they wat to go in, that's when you could say something like..."the doctors don't let children in there, because they use (i'm just thinking off the top of my head, bear with me please ^_^) magic to fix mommy's boo-boo and the doctors don't want to let the little kids to see the magic because if you see it...that would not be good...the doctors use the magic to make patients better...etc" you get my point? |
