Results of a Progesterone Test? |
I had a blood test last Tuesday (3 days ago) to test my progesterone levels. How long does it normally take to get the results back? And, for those who have had it, if it is too low, what is usually the next step? Or if it's good enough, what's usually the next step? Thanks. I know that I have been ovulating based on OPK tests which do detect a surge along with my BBT which also does rise after ovulation. I think the reason they are testing the progesterone is to see if it's not high enough to sustain a pregnancy and the reason for my short cycles. Clomid (which boost ovulation and progesterone) or progesterone supplements (vaginal suppostitories or by injection) starting 3-5 days after ovulation. don't use progesterone lotions. The body doesn't absorb progesterone through the skin very well. If it's the kind of progesterone test I'm thinking of, it determines whether or not you ovulated. If the numbers are too low it could mean you didn't this cycle- this happens from time to time. If this happens a lot, the next step would most likely be Clomid to help get you ovulating every month, possibly an ultrasound to check for developing follicles and follow-up progesterone tests to ensure the Clomid is working. Hope this helps. Good luck! you should have gotten your results back by now. I went to the doc yesterday to get mine checked and the doctor called me this morning. Which was good news finally!! Anyway if it is low than he is most likely going to want to get you started on something like clomid which will get your ovaries going like it should. It helps you ovulate better. Every doctor is different. If your progesterone is good then you should get busy making that baby you want.Have you been trying for awhile though and cant conceive. If so and everything looks good on your end then they might want to start checking your hubby I would call your doc today and see if they have the results back. 3 days is about standard. Every doctor's office is probably different, but when I had mine tested, it was low and she wanted to wait til the next month and test again to see if it was still low. Mine was fine the next month and I actually ended up pregnant that month, so I don't know what the next step is. Good luck. They should have the results the next day. So you can call and talk to them about it. It just helps them tell if you are ovulating. So they may try to test again later or try again next month. You may not ovulate so it will stay low or if your ovulation then it will rise. If it stays low they can put you on a med that will help you. Good luck! it should take a couple of more days, if it's low you'll get progesterone shots (orally or vaginally) to help you get pregnant and carry a healthy pregnanty, you can also learn more about this and ask doctors online for free, try fertilityties.com |
