Know anyone with schizophrenia? |
if you do can you tell me how they acted and what their symptoms were Yeah me. See things that aren't there, smell things that aren't there believe that the government was following me in white vans, believing that the government wanted to deport me to another country, hearing voices of God, and voices of people talking to each other about how crazy I am, believing that my boss was conspiring Against me, and so on. I am better now except for the depression. I can deaL WITH THE HALLUCINATIONS NOW CAUSE i HAVE LEARNED ENOUGH TO KNOW THEY AREN'T REAL, BUT THE DEPRESSION i CAN'T DEAL WITH. i DRINK HEAVILY AND DO DRUGS WHEN i CAN GET THEM, WHICH IS HARD BECAUSE i HAVE BECOME SO SOCIALLY ISOLATED SINCE i GOT SICK. i AM JUST WAITING FOR DEATH. Schizophrenia can present in several different ways and there are many disorders that have similar symptoms. The symptoms are categorised as negative and positive. Negative symptoms can include social isolation and withdrawal, poor motivation, apathy and lethargy. Positive symptoms include psychosis - hallucinations, auditory most commonly, e.g. hearing a voice or voices, paranoia or suspiciousness, sometimes delusional beliefs. Depression can also cause symptoms similar to negative symptoms of schizophrenia and positive symptoms can also occur in certain types of depression, hypomanic or manic phases of bipolar affective disorder and even toxic confusion caused by a severe infection. It is impossible to diagnose a person with schizophrenia without interviewing the person. Schizophrenia is usually identified by a pattern of recovery and relapse rather than an isolated psychotic episode. If you are concerned that you or someone close to you may have schizophrenia you should ensure they see a doctor as soon as possible, whilst a serious mental illness which is incurable at present, recovery is possible with proper care and treatment. I have a friend with schizophrenia. The main trouble for her is the "voices in her head, and their constant hammering when she tries to ignore them. She hears the voices with her "ears", just as if they were in the room with her. They are nasty voices who tell her bad things. She is now on medication which reduce the voices to a distant mumbling and give her some peace. Schizophrenics talk out loud to their voices and argue with them. my husband is and like the first person to answer most of the time he is fine and very intelligent, hard working, loving man, but then the rare time when he starts to hallucinate and hear things, and the paranoia is the hardest part to deal with because then he believes we are in a war and he needs to find a dragon and his family is trying to kill him. During those times he has to go to the hospital but 90% of the time he is like every other hard working family man Yes I know one person who is schizophrenic. She is a high functioning person except when she gets her episodes. She gets highly paranoid and delusional, she also hallucinates (auditory and visual). She become violent and often has to be taken to the hospital handcuffed and restrained. She's incredibly intelligent, it's such a shame that the medications don't work 100%. |
