A close relative has paranoid schizophrenia,?

I talk with the Dr. about issues, this person is having but when I talk with the Dr. she tells me one thing about my relative, but when we are both in the office, she talks in a different way. She will not explain all the issues he is facing, for one thing I think he is hallucinating and as well as other things. I take him reg to get his shots but he drinks and smokes marijuana, why won't they hospitalize him and reevaluate is it because he seems ok, once he is in the office, and why the Dr. does not tell him the same things she tells me? and what more can I do since I have been given these rights.

I hope this is a psychiatrist your relative is seeing as he is the specialist not your family doctor, he doesn't have the knowledge about mental illnesses and the medications for them. If your relative is smoking marijuana and drinking then his medication cannot work. Somebody has to educate him about this. His symptoms will continue as long as he is doing this. Maybe you need to take him to another psychiatrist who is going to tell the truth and also listen to your input. You are the one who is well and knows him and his symptoms more than the psyciatrist and your input is extremely important. Most psychiatrist welcome information about their patients especially when you have the legal right to communicate with him/her. You may need a change in psychiatrists.

Schizophrenia is a pretty difficult diagnosis, for the medical community and the people affected by it. She probably knows what she's doing. Schizophrenia really isn't as cut-and-dry as a lot of people seem to think.
