Is it bigotry and ignroance to call schizophrenia an illness?

Why would it be? Schizophrenia is defined as a mental disorder because the activity the brain goes through in a schizophrenic variates abnormally from the general public's brain.

Unless you wish to claim schizophrenia is a higher level of understanding - because they are able to tap into a "different dimension," which may or may not be real - there's no reason not to label it as an illness.

Go to the library and do some research. Schizopherenia is a disorder because of the actual biological handicaps that cause it and because of the deteriation in health it produces, and because treatment can help many people.

Homosexuality is not an illness (assuming that is where you are going with this) because it does not harm nor cause deteriation of the health and does not harm the other people involved. Being homosexual raises the statistical possibility of some health problems, but homosexuality in and of itself does not cause them. It is also shown that treatment does nothing but harm the individual being treated on a traumatic level, which is partly why homosexuality was removed from the dsm (other reasons including research showing it is a natural occurance and that it does not harm the person affected by homosexuality).
