Is there a drug for schizophrenia (besides Ablify) that doesn't cause weight gain?

I can't take Ablify because I get too many bad side effects.

I am on risperdal at the moment and it is extremely difficult to lose weight, hence my question. I had read that Abilfy doesn't have a weight gain effect but I must be wrong about that...

my friend is on Abilify and she gained 40 pounds. I don't know what to say .. Except to take it and work out and try to not eat as much...The Abilify helped her so much, except for the extreme weight gain.

There are several classes/types of psychiatric medications that affect brain functioning in different ways and they all have side effects of some kind.

You should talk to whoever is giving you Risperdal and ask to be placed on another medication or something like a thyroid medication. Generally they wont put you on a thyroid medication if your medicine is causing weight gain but if you let them know how much it upsets and concerns you....

I've mostly been on Abilify,but you said you can't take it. I tried Zyprexa [I think that's how you spell it!] but I wasn't on it long enough to know if it caused any weight gain or not. Hope you find something that works for you soon!
